Lytro Perspective Shift Feature + Living Filters – 2013 #PhotoCamp SXSW Presentation

Since my last blog post about the Lytro Light Field camera, the company has introduced a new feature called Perspective shift that allows users to change their point of view a few degrees to the left or right, as if you were shifting your head the slightest bit to look around a corner.

This new feature also allows you to bring all areas of your living pictures into maximum focus at the same time you shift your perspective.  The end effect is sort of like a mini version of “bullet time” from the Matrix movies.

Best practices to get the maximum effect out of your images is to have a lot of depth to your image, so that the degree of motion is more apparent when using the perspective shift feature.

Here are many of my best Lytro images that utilize the feature:

Lytro also introduced several Art filters since my last post that allow you to add several creative effects to your living pictures.  It takes a lot of experimentation to see which filters work best on which photos, here are a few examples of filters I’ve applied to Lytro photos.

Burning Question… But does Lytro take photos of Cats?

So now there are new reasons to enjoy using your Lytro camera.  With the added dimensions that these new options give, the surreal Lytro photos are definitely more interesting.  I’m looking forward to seeing what else the company does in the future and I’m rossing my fingers for higher resolution in the next iteration of the camera.
